Artistic Statement

As a child,

I often struggled with understanding the bigger picture. Whether it was in conversations, film topics, or a character’s motivation, I did not catch on as fast as my peers. What I noticed however was the small details. Every film I watched, I pointed out the change in music, each transition, and how a shot was established. By doing so, I began to understand the plot based on how it was put together. It helped me understand people more in conversations by paying attention to their tone of voice and body language.

Eventually, I used it everywhere, including my own work in editing. For example, I like to experiment with color grading in shots to set the mood. I also looked into movies outside of my comfort to get a sense of how the coloring and effects set a plot. I can also create an animation style that derives from lesser known ones for remarkable results. I am never afraid to experiment with audio as well. I continually explore different genres of music and types of sound to make my work for sound design flourish. Therefore the sense of eye and ear is crucial to my journey. As time passed, things changed, and so do the subjects that influence my work. I am always looking for different styles of editing and seeing how it will influence what I do. If something comes across as a challenge, I will break it down and work around it until I understand how it was accomplished. By doing so, I hope to show others how I acknowledge those concepts, and just how important the smaller details can be.
